台灣是個3C王國，而每年都有許多可以用的光碟機被人們丟棄，但其實他們都是好的，只是因為其他公司推出了更新更酷炫的硬體。 我去收集了許多二手的光碟機，用另一種方式讓他們再度活了起來，而其背後驅動他們的養分，是來自於網路上碎屑的封包。 Taiwan is a 3C kingdom, where numerous informational products are discarded - some of which, replaced by newer models, still usable. For this piece of work, I collected hundreds of scrap CD-ROM drives and made them come back to life. The Internet, the blood of my work, is itself a stream from which data, consisting of 0's and 1's, are put in (uploaded) and taken out (downloaded; accessed). Likewise, data in a CD-ROM can be put in(burned) and taken out (read). In my work, I want to convert the Internet data - the ones and zeroes - into the CD-ROM drives' physical ejection and retraction, thus making the activity of logging on to the Internet both visible and audible. Moreover, by putting a large quantity of CD-ROM drives together, I would like to immerse the audience in the grand informational torrent materialized by the collective action. The mechanic movement shall create a space undefined, moving, developing, "massaging" the body all the time. * 3C means products belonging to the categories of computer, communication, and consumer-electronics. |
