This is a sound interactive artwork. My intention is to visualize received sound to encourage the audience to decipher the sounds they make and to create further impacts. With this artwork, the louder the sounds are the bigger the object will be. And the object being constructed includes: green trees, withered trees, houses, skycrapers, money, garbage. This is an approach I am opting to spark discussions on the relationship between sound, body, and global environmental awareness.

Sounds are important and an irreplaceable element in today’s cityscape. Various sounds come together from the features of a city, includes automobile noises, mechanical sounds from construction sites, hustles and bustles from crowds on the streets, or the humming of air conditioners that can only be heard when it's quiet and late at night, and through different sounds, ecological evolutions are recounted.

With his extensive sound art performance experience, sounds are transformed into images by artist Wang Lien-Cheng, with different sound volumes applied to reflect various corresponding objects. As time progressed, these objects also go through changes, but the changes differ from the rise and decline observed in nature. They are more like manmade constructions and eliminations, and this continuously repeated cycle conveys that this exact scenario is also unremittingly occurring around the world. The gray gloomy sky that the city is set against represents the silent sounds of the environment.

This artwork stems from the artist’s concerns for global warming, as he devotes himself in the environment and uses technological media to figuratively transform sounds. The intention is to encourage the audience to engage in the interaction and hopefully through the interactive process, concerns for today’s ecology and environment protection can be spurred and for us to contemplate about the intricate connection with our environment.
